In Software Update, are the updates shown already downloaded on the Computer??

Hi, I have a MacBook Air mid 2011 running OS X 10.7.2 Lion. This is not really a problem, but more of a question. In Apple Software Update, are the updates shown already downloaded on the computer? In other words, if I install them, would i have the same amount of free disk space (meaning that the updates were already downloaded and were just waiting to be applied), or less free space (meaning that the updates hadn't been installed)?

An update marked as downloaded has been downloaded but not installed. Installing it will free up space used by temporary files.

An update not marked as downloaded hasn't been downloaded or installed. Choosing to install it will cause you to gain or lose space depending on whether the old files(if any) are larger than the newer ones.
