why wont my songs from itunes transfer to my iphone?

It sounds like you have Manual Syncing setup for your phone but songs aren't transferring when you drag them to your device in iTunes. I would start by restarting both your computer and the phone, then trying again:

Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

1. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears.
2. Drag the slider to turn your device completely off.
3. After the device turns off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button again until you see the Apple logo

If the issue persists, then I would uncheck the checkbox for manualy syncing in iTunes, click apply, then re enable it and test it again:

Manage content manually on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod

1. Connect your device to your computer.
2. Open iTunes. Make sure that you have the latest version.
3. Locate and click on your device.
   
4. Click the Summary tab.
5. Click the box next to "Manually manage music and videos."
6. Click Apply.

Here's my problem: My iTunes 12 only shows "Manually manage videos" not "Manually manage music and videos".
