why arent my songs backing up to my computer?

That is correct. The iPod backup that iTunes makes does not included any synced media like apps and music. Synced media should be on your computer.

You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:

Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

i got a new iphone and im backing up my ipod so i can put everything on my phone. everything else backed up except for my songs.
