Unable to delete files from trash containing files from the external hard disk. getting an error 8060. Can some one help?

Hi,

I deleted a large number of files from my external HDD connected to my Mac OS. Then as usual I tried " sudo rm -rf ~/.Trash/* " command from terminal to delete everything. It didnt work.

Tried deleting securely, it didnt work as well.

My external drives are still connected to the machine.

Also tried restarting as mentioned in some of the forums, but that too didnt help.

Does anyone have any suggestions on it?

Dont have Mac coverage so those guys will also not help on it. Dont wanna spend $29 just to understand how to delete the files from an external drive on a macbook.... lol. This was a simple rather very simple activity on Windows(Still not recommending Windows, bcoz mac is a mac afterall)

MacBook Pro (13-inch Early 2011), OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)
