Q: Apple HP Printer Drivers 3.1 for OS X Update

By coincidence I saw on Apple Support page Apple - Support - Downloads that there is a HP 3.1 update available.

I did not see this update through OS X Software Update in  App Store app even with printer powered on. Anybody els with same experience ?

Thanks

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)

Funny: if I look at the HP site for my printer here (HP Envy 7640 All In One w/Fax) the latest software (inc drivers is from 2014).

that is correct, but mostly HP software include ALL accompanying apps like scanner software etc, while Apple's only included the basic apps.

If I want to use extended scanner options on my HP ENY 120 , I have to install the HP software first ...

OP: The answer to your question is: sometime on or right before June 19th, they released an update.  I know this because this update hijacked my HP LJ's wireless capability and flushed it down the proverbial toilet.  The second update was to "fix" their mistake.  It didn't.  So I only was able to fix my issue with my printer by rolling my MBP to a TM restoration of June 11th.  It's been two weeks of pure h*ll.

    P.S.  DON'T DOWNLOAD IT!!!!  JUST DON'T!!!!

Could you help a novice with more details about "my printer by rolling my MBP to a TM restoration of June 11th."

I have a problem with my Photosmart 2610 since the update. Printer not responding!  Hope this helps to solve the problem

    Thanks

My newest HP printer in the SystemPreferences->Printers gives the HP Printer drivers Version 2.0; the 3.1 update I could never download (lucky me) because it  dissapeared too fast.

There IS a HP Printer Drivers 3.1 on some aggregate sites (Macupdate, Softonic, Download.com, and alike) :

a lot of tools have version numbers higher than the official sites, probably to lure the "update-geeks" to download and install this. Often the installers in these aggregate sites have been manipulated to contain Adware/Malware.

Yes, I know, still I advise not to download (if you can). My printer does not ask for it and works perfectly well, also scanning.

Updating is OK, but don't be an update freak,

A possible workaround for printer and scanner until the HP printer driver 3.1 is replaced.

This is for Ethernet, printer might work with USB but I do not have a USB cable to test.

No idea what features are missing except scanner dpi resolution.A

Find printer IP address by using Setup Menu -> Network

    This worked for printing,

Use printer & scanner preference to add printer via IP address

Select for protocol  HP Jetdirect - Socket

Use (bottom line) Generic PCL Laser Printer

    This worked for scanning.

Use the printer IP address in a browser.

Sorry to be a pest, but I just followed the plan: trash "zz", reboot, AppStore update.   I was asked to update with 3.0, followed by 3.1..  And now it wants me to install 3.0 again.  There is something still missing here....  (This is 10.10.4 on an iMac (27-inch, Late 2013)

I have this exact problem. For a while now, I have had HP Printer Driver 3.1 as updated by the App store. Then it suggests 3.0. If I install that (why, right?) then it says I have to install 3.1. A stupid loop.

I installed 3.1 and am ignoring the rest.
