Q: MacBook Pro randomly drops wifi signal from BT Home-Hub

My MacBook Pro drops connection to our BT Home Hub.  We also have a Netgear booster with 2 channels 2Mhz and 5Mhz, its seems to connect to the 2Mhz channel ok when nearby, but when close to main BT Home Hub and too far for the booster, the MacBook Pro will not connect to BT Home-Hub.

This is an issue that has developed over the last few months and seems to only effect our MacBooks as iPhones are working fine on either BT Home-Hub or Netgear booster. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)

    Good day Tufton Croft,

If you are having an issue with difficulties maintaining your Wi-Fi connection between your MacBook Pros and your BT Home Hub, I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -

Unfortunately diagnostic did not help but found this advice elsewhere, which has worked:

Separating the 2.4 and the 5GHz works straight away.

Go to bthomehub.home on a device that will connect (your phone will do fine)

    Advanced settings

Enter the admin password from the card on your router

    Continue

    Wireless

    5GHz

    Sync with 2.4GHz: No

SSID: add a 5 at the end so you can tell the difference

    Hit apply

Now forget the network on your Mac (System Preferences-Network-Wifi-Advanced)

There should now be two versions of your SSID in the list (the original and the one you added a 5 to)

Your mac should correct straight away to the 2.4GHz (so without the 5) but you'll probably need to put the password in the first time.

It's apparently a known fault in Macs that they struggle with the 5GHz internet
