iTunes won't sync all the songs I ask it to from Mac to iphone4s, only some!

It sounds like you are trying to sync your music to your device but its not all syncing. From what you describe you may need to change the sync settings for your music in iTunes:

Sync your iPhone, iPad, and iPod with iTunes using USB

If you have it set to sync all your music, then I would uncheck the box to sync your music, click apply in the lower right, then sync it all back.

Thanks for the update. From what you're describing it seems to me like there may be a software issue with either your iTunes library or the iPhone itself. To start I would next backup your device to iTunes, then restore it as new and verify that it works.

How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups

If it does, then restore your backup to either verify it still works and the software just needed reinstalled, or isolate the issue to the backup file itself.

If it persists then I would backup your iTunes library:

Back up your iTunes library by copying it to an external drive

Then recreate your iTunes library and try the sync again:

iTunes: How to re-create your iTunes library and playlists

If syncing doesn't give the desired results these steps usually work

1. Backup device.
2. Restore as a new device.
3. Restore backup taken earlier.
