How Do I Create New Folder in the Folder I Want???

Have same issue if in "LIST" mode on Viewer window. Viewer installs the folder at the bottom of the root folder of the drive. In "Column" view mode, it works just fine and installs the folder that is selected. It is a real pain to remember to shift view modes.

Do you mean that if you create a new folder in a folder which is open an active the folder is created in the enclosing folder? This is not my experience:

But in this demo, if you expand 'untitled folder' then create a new folder, it will correctly be created within 'PIANISTS':

To create it within the expanded 'untitled folder' you have to double-click that folder to open it.

If you open folder A in list view, then you click the disclosure triangle to display the contents of folder B, then if you create a new folder it will be created in folder A, not B.

When you have the folder open, you should be able to press SHIFT COMMAND N to create a new folder within the folder.

No matter how the folder is created in list view, it doesn't work. Even with the view expanded. It always goes to the root.

No go at least in list view. It maybe that I only use external thunderbolt drives for photos, dat, etc.

Probably a long shot, but go to your user/home folder. Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.

Re-launch Finder by restarting the computer and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.

If the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

Clarification question - if you have a folder selected and go Finder/File/New Folder, the new folder doesn't appear in the selected folder? Is that correct?

What happens when you highlight folder in which you want another folder and then click Command-N?
