brand new Ipod Shuffle 4th gen charging difficulties

I bought a brand new Shuffle 4th gen from Amazon. I have concluded that I am not connecting with iTunes because it won't charge. So....after researching this community I started the "five second amber light on aff/unplugging/plugging back in repeat" procedure. I think it is starting to work because the amber light is ever so slightly staying on a little longer. Anyone have ultimate success with this procedure?

By the way, I have an older shuffle 4th gen and it is working just fine so I know it is not iTunes. I am not giving up.
