Extended Desktop using Target Display Mode

I'm currently trying to use a utilize Target Display Mode on a 2009 27" iMac. I have a Mac Pro running Yosemite with a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 graphics card connected to a 27" Dell P2715Q 4k monitor. The iMac is daisy chained from the P2715Q using a DisplayPort cable. TDM is working, but only in mirror mode. I don't see an option to change it to extended. I have read that TDM only supports mirroring, but I have seen video of what appears to be TDM supporting extended desktop on from a MacBook Pro.

Ideally I would like to keep the P2715Q at 3840x2160 and use the iMac as extended at 2560x1440, but I would be happy even if I had to drop my main display to 2560x1440 when I wanted to use the second monitor.

Can anyone clarify? Thank you.

Daisy-chaining Displays off Displays is not supported.

It would need its own ThunderBolt port not already occupied by a Display. It MAY be able to be daisy-chained off a Drive enclosure.
