Jun 27, 2015 5:24 PM in response to Agoodrickby Elle2125,★HelpfulI'm in the same boat. My first apple watch recorded exercise perfectly and automatically (exercise minutes are recorded antyime you do a brisk walk or more, automatically). Unfortunately, when I exchanged my watch for another one (wanted a different style), the watch barely went over 3 minutes and I am a very active person. I calibrated the watch numerous times with not very much luck. I REALLY hope this isn't a hardware issue.

Jun 27, 2015 6:15 PM in response to Agoodrickby Agoodrick,I was able to get the problem resolved with the help of Apple Care. They had me recalibrate my watch. However I did a hour on a treadmill at 4 miles per hour and it only gave me credit for 21 minutes.

Nov 15, 2015 4:43 PM in response to Agoodrickby helwolfe,My watch worked at first, recorded my exercise, now it says I did 5 minutes when i took and hour and a half beach walk. I saved the session. I recalibrated, so we will see, but this is a big problem as exercise is why I bought the watch!!

Jan 18, 2016 12:43 AM in response to Agoodrickby Jonathan UK,Hi
To credit progress towards your daily Exercise goal, the Activity app aims to identify activity that equals or exceeds the intensity of "a brisk walk". The definition of a brisk walk varies from person to person and depends upon your personal information.
To check that your personal information is accurate - and to update it over time:
- On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch tab > Health > Edit - tap and adjust items, then tap on Done.
In some circumstances - including during all treadmill-based walks and runs - the Activity app relies on your arm motion (measured by the built-in accelerometer) to track movement for the purpose of credited progress towards the Exercise goal. For the best results, allow the arm on which you are wearing your watch to swing naturally as you walk or run.
For outdoor activities, it may help to take your iPhone with you and to record walks and runs as workouts using the Workout app (ideally, turn on Location Services on your iPhone, so that GPS data is available to help your watch in estimating your pace).
Calibrating your watch also helps to improve the accuracy of various estimations (including Exercise credit) made by the Activity app and Workout app. More information and instructions for calibrating your watch are available via the link below.
If you still find it difficult to achieve Exercise credit, a workaround is to record activity using the Other category in the Workout app. This will always credit one minute towards the Exercise goal for each full minute of the workout's duration.

If you have not yet done so, it may also help to update your iPhone and Apple Watch to the latest software versions. After updating from earlier software versions, some users reported increases in the proportion of their activity that was credited as Exercise.
