How do I open Pages files from my MacBook on other devices?

My daughter had to turn in her MacBook from high school, so she copied all her Pages files onto a USB jump drive. We no longer have the MacBook. I have copied those files from the USB drive to my Dell Laptop (running Windows). The file format appears almost like a .zip file but nothing I can open other than a .jpg file that allows me to "view" the files. She needs to open and edit the documents. How do I either:

a) Open the Pages files (now on my computer) in MSWord? or

b) Transfer the files to my iPad (which has Pages) and open/edit the files there?

Pages documents can only be opened by the Pages application on a Mac, or via Pages for iCloud by using an Apple ID with icloud.com. Once you have the document(s) uploaded to icloud.com, they are also accessible by IOS Pages on your iPad — providing you have iCloud enabled in IOS Settings. Pages documents, once on icloud.com, can also be downloaded to Windows as Word, or PDF documents.

Neither Pages for iCloud, nor IOS Pages are a full implementation of OS X Pages. Pages for IOS 7, or later, do not support Pages '08 documents, and content created in the OS X Pages '09 may be changed, or dropped entirely due to application incompatibilities introduced by Apple in Fall 2013.

On a Mac, Pages documents can be single-file format (basically a compressed folder that has been zipped and renamed with .pages extension), or package folders, which are really uncompressed directories containing components of the Pages document, but the OS X Finder makes these look like ordinary files to Pages and the user. It is on PCs where these package folders appear as directories. Don't touch the contents, as you may risk damaging the document. Pages documents will always have the .pages name extension, though the extension can be disabled on the Mac to make it look like Essay instead of the real Essay.pages.

Apple makes an iCloud control panel for Windows 7 and 8. In that link, it shows how to obtain iCloud for Windows and install it. If you look closely at Step 3, you will see a Pages folder icon that represents Pages documents on iCloud. It is into that particular Pages icon folder that you want to drag/drop your USB stick Pages documents (drag only the folders with .pages in their name — not the folders individual contents). This should automatically put these documents on iCloud, and make them available to your iPad Pages.

Thank you! I already have an iCloud account and enabled on my iPad, so maybe this can work. A few other questions:

1) Is it possible for me to transfer the documents from my Dell laptop to the iCloud (because we no longer have her MacBook)?

2) Which document do I copy (the Pages file name on her MacBook was "Essay" and now on the jump drive it is a folder called "Essay.pages" that includes a lot of other files and folders almost like a .zip file

3) Do I need to borrow another MacBook from a friend and try to do this? If so, can I open the essay.pages folder directly from the USB drive?

Thanks again!
