inherited MacBookPro version OS X 10.5.8

MY WIFE JUST GAVE ME HER OLD MACBOOKPRO.


How do I take it over and go forward with this device?I want to upgrade what I can and keep using this for a year or 2 more.


What do "you guys" suggest?

Open System Preferences>Accounts, unlock the lock, click on the little plus icon, make a new admin account, log out & into the new account.
