Q: Hidden files shown in Open/Save dialog box

Hi all,

In Finder hidden files are hidden, but whenever I open an open/save dialog box (eg. Microsoft Outlook-->new email-->attach file OR Firefox window--->webpage-->upload file) the hidden files are shown.  ie. the default is hidden files ON rather than be hidden, but only for the open/save dialog box

Methods I have (unsuccessfully) tried to resolve this issue:

- terminal commands (including variations eg. False, No, 0) to show/hide all files in Finder --> REBOOT (command killall Finder, causes the preferences file (com.apple.finder.plist) to revert back to how it was before the command was executed)

- delete com.apple.finder.plist in preferences

- shift+command+. to toggle hidden files on/off

System: OS X 10.9.5

Does anyone have any advice to resolve this issue?

Cheers

This is an issue with Microsoft programs. They use file routines that expose the hidden files which they shouldn't. But there is nothing you can do about it but report it to MS. There are other pieces of software that make the same error. MS is not the only one.
