Switching between full-screen apps

While using MacBook Pro Yosemite, I've opened up several desktops and use the 3 finger swipe to switch between screens. The problem is that when switching between the first and second desktop, it will stop at the second screen for a second and then shoot me to the third desktop screen. The same thing happens if I start on the third screen and try to switch to the second, it will shoot me to the first screen. If I try switching screens immediately after it will take me to the very next screen and will not make me jump from the 3rd to 1st screen. I have tried shorter swipe strokes but does not change the effect. I would like to be able to switch between desktop screens, one 3 finger stroke moving me only one screen at a time. What can I do?
