Lost photos while uploading off iPod 5 to Mac!!!! iPhoto quit unexpectedly 2x!

While downloading photos off an iPod 5 to Mac 10.7.5 Lion, it said they were successfully downloaded, I clicked delete photos from iPod, and they began to delete, however, there was an error message at the finish that iPhoto unexpectedly quit, (This happened 2x!!!) now, we cannot find photos ANYWHERE! Not in pictures, not in iPhoto library, how can I recover these? Need help asap please.
