Magic Mouse only tracks diagonally

Magic Mouse suddenly started to do this. It tracks OK, a little sutterty perhaps, but it only tracks on a steep diagonal on a lower left/upper right axis. I see it's been reported before but never saw a solution. If any one knows how to fix this, any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

The Bluetooth connection seems good, and the batteries are strong. I've rebooted and zapped SMC.

Thanks.

I solved this problem by:

  1. Disconnecting the mouse (Bluetooth menu | <mouse name> | Disconnect)
  2. Removing the mouse from the system (System Preferences | Bluetooth | <mouse name>)
  3. Turning the mouse off
  4. While holding the mouse "button" down, powering it back up, not releasing the button until the light on the bottom starts blinking (indicating in pairing mode)
  5. Repairing the mouse to the system (System Preference | Bluetooth | pair)
