What happens when you try?

I have the same problem ...
Same question as above. "Can't" is not a description of the problem.

get the message : activation failed. Try again later (which I am doing for the last two days)...
Follow the troubleshooting steps in this support article:

Gail..by "cannot log into facetime" I mean when I enter my by Apple ID and password (verified on Apple ID website) I get the "spinning wheel" then a message that activation failed, or nothing happens and it goes back to login screen. Checked all suggested fixes (by Apple and on message boards) but nothing has worked. Did a wipe clean and reinstall. Literally have been on phone with Apple support ten or more times. Anyway, that's what was meant by can't log into face time. Tom
Are you by any chance using Two Step Verification?
If you are, then to log into Messages and FaceTime, you need an App-specific password to do so:
Go to Manage your Apple ID and sign in and click on Password and Security: Apple - My Apple ID
You will see a section to create (or clear) App-specific passwords. Type in Messages/FaceTime for the name, then ask it to generate the password.
Copy the password (I always label them and paste them on my Note Pad).
Then go back into the FaceTime Login screen, and when it asks for the passcode, paste the App-specific one in the password field. It should log you in at that point.

Gail, thanks for reply. I don't think I'm Using two step verification. When I log into the apple ID website, my e-mail address is verified. The only options I see are name, ID, addresses, then password and security (nothing there except security questions). Address, phone numbers, and language and contacts preferences. I.clicked on each option but did not see anything for app specific passwords. Thank you for your reply. From What I've read it may have something to do with Apple ID and Apple servers.
