Q: lost mail application or download, how can I get the mail application back on my mac?

Somehow it seems that I have lost my mail application or download on my mac and now I can't either send or receive messages because the application won't open. it opens but then it closes back up with an error message. I tried to instal a mail installer and this is what I get. can someone please help? Screenshot 2015-06-22 10.15.41.png thanks

    Is the Mail application is your Applications folder? If the application Mail opens, but then quits, what is the error message?

     

    To reinstall Mail, you would need to reinstall the OS.

     

    Do a backup, preferable 2 separate ones on 2 drives. Boot to the Recovery Volume (command - R on a restart or hold down the option/alt key during a restart and select Recovery Volume). Run Disk Utility Verify/Repair and Repair Permissions until you get no errors. Then re-install the Os.
