iTunes crashes when plugging in iPhone 5s

When plugging in my iPhone 5s using iOS 7, the application freezes. The HP computer is running Windows 7 Home Premium running the latest v12 of iTunes. I have reinstalled iTunes from the website without any effect. iTunes runs okay without the iPhone plugged in.

iPhone 5s, iOS 7.1.2, 16GB memory
