And there is something else you aren't telling us? You recently ran updates?

Normally you don't have to delete an old application when updating but this time it seems to be necessary for some.

    Thank you for the links.

I hadn't opened iTunes on my computer since March.  The most recent update was in April.

Your reply was not helpful.  It was, in fact a bit pretentious and off-putting for a site that is supposed to provide support, but the links you provided did give a little insight.

The issue is still not resolved.

Does "insight" mean you actually tried them or is it not resolved because you did not try them?  The next person to help you will probably wish to know this, and also if you are seeing anything at all when you click on the iTunes icon such as it bouncing and even trying to open, or if you have tried opening the application from the icon in the applications folder.  Good luck.

The icon in the dock did not respond to being clicked on, nor did the one in the applications folder, neither before nor after running permissions.

I had tried these things before and after your

    emails ... Both of them

I will wait for another update from Apple before deleting and re-installing or messing around with the terminal. That's too windows for me.
