Q: why have my folders deleted off my desktop

my folder holding a bunch of my pictures has disappeared and i looked in the trash and searched for it but it is not there. Help!

You likely switched to another account on your computer.  The "Desktop" is account specific.   Usually the account name is in the upper right hand corner, and you can switch back to the other account from there.   If not, use the Apple menu to log out from the current account, and log into the account with the Desktop folder in question.

 

If not, verify your operating system in Apple menu -> About This Mac.  If it is some version of Mac OS X, please repost to one of the correct forums below:

As Classic has nothing to do with Mac OS X.
