Updating remote desktop client to 3.8.4 broke things

I have a macbook pro retina with yosemite.

Updating remote desktop client to 3.8.4 broke the nice, free remote desktop VNC.

A time machine restore is too painful.

Any ideas other than asking apple to issue another update?

AVOID THIS UPDATE!!!
