Q: some emails don't go into sent folder

I am running the latest version of Yosemite on a MacBook Pro Retina 15" and just recently when I email this one person and include an attachment of a PDF, that email does not go into my sent folder after it is sent. I know that it does get sent because that person will reply to the email but it is no where in my sent folder which is not good if I need to access that attachment on my iPhone or iPad.

Why is this happening? Is there a new but within Mail? Because I also have a new problem that used to happen with a previous version of the OS where once I attach that file, I can then no longer save over that file or delete it and empty the trash as long as Mail is open. I get the message that it is in use and I have to quit Mail to do anything with it.

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Yosemite (10.10.2), 15", 2.6GHz, 16GB RAM, 1TB Hard Dri

Thanks. I'll try this all when I have some time. But thought I would post what just happened this morning. The two emails I sent last night, after logging out of iCloud and back in, with PDF attachments that did not go into my Sent folder are in a folder that says:

    On My Mac

    Recovered Messages (iCloud)

Why did they go into that folder instead of Sent?

I tried what you said above and here are the lines that were in Console after clearing it and then sending a PDF via email that did not go into my sent. There isn't too much here so this is most of it. I deleted some lines that had to do with Dropbox but a lot of this I don't know if it pertains or not. Is it a permissions thing? looks like a lot of the messages are "you don't have permission..."

Back up all data before proceeding.

Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

    ~/Library/Caches/CloudKit

Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select

Services â–¹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)

from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. Log out or restart the computer and empty the Trash.

*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select

              Go â–¹ Go to Folder...

from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

    Hi Linc,

Thank you for this. I just tried exactly what you mentioned and deleted that folder, restarted and emptied the trash. I then tried sending a PDF from my iCloud account and the email got sent (I'm sending to a non-iCloud email I have) but the email is no where to be found in my sent folder just like before.

Contact Apple Support. When you set up a support call, select "Apple ID" as the product you need help with, not the hardware model. That way, if you're not under AppleCare, you may be able to talk your way out of being charged for the call.

Thanks, I'll try to call. I never have that much time to devote to calling them though which is why almost a year has gone by and I haven't called them back about the safari history not syncing.

This morning I am noticing that after I send a PDF and look in my sent folder I see the email and then it immediately disappears and eventually it will go into the folder: Recovered Messages (iCloud) On My Mac.

Seeing the same thing on 3 different computers and they all do the same exact thing. Anything with an attachment is sent, but a copy is not being saved in the Sent folder. However if using either an iDevice or a web browser on iCloud.com copies are saved so this is a Mail application issue.

I have the same problem also. Sent mail with attachments go into Recovered Messages... eventually. Very frustrating.

Same issue for me.  Brand new 15" MacBook Pro retina.  If I send an e-mail with a PDF attachment it briefly shows in the Sent folder, then disappears, then eventually shows up in a "recovered messages" folder.

So this is obviously a bug. This only started happening for me very recently. How about everyone else? And I don't remember a software update recently that may have provoked this from happening.

The only thing I can think of that has changed on my computer is an update to Adobe Creative Cloud which is creating these PDFs that I am attaching to emails. Is everyone else in the same situation? Do you use Adobe Creative Cloud and recently updated to the 2015 versions of their apps?

Started yesterday for me.  I have messages with PDF attachments in my Sent folder from Wednesday 6/24, but nothing for yesterday or today.  I am a graphic designer and send PDF files frequently every day...

Yes, I upgraded to CC 2015 on Monday and I guess it started shortly after that.
