Jun 23, 2015 1:33 PM in response to BarbMoreby Mike Sombrio,That it happens AFTER your iMac has been running awhile is alarming. Your iMac may be losing connection with the hard drive. You can test the theory if you have an external drive on which you can install OS X and start and run from that. If it doesn't happen running from the external you've likely got hard drive issues. I would make an appointment and get it in for a proper diagnostic right away. Hopefully you have a current backup....if not I'd strongly advise you to make one.
