Q: Different user accounts with same Apple ID.

Firstly I would like to say hello to you all, as I am new to your community. I would like to ask you if I can I install 3 different accounts with the same Apple ID in the same iMac?

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)

If you don't mind could you give us a short summary of why you wish to do this? Normally, separate accounts on one computer is intended for different users each of whom would have different Apple IDs.

Thank you for you quick reply. I have 3 dropbox accounts for the safety of my data (or I think so) and I would like to install them in my iMac, so I need three user accounts.

Hmmmm. I'm unconvinced the having three DropBox accounts for the same data provides any more safety than one account. My thoughts are that your risk with DropBox is that your account is hacked, but if that happens then all three accounts are at risk. A far safer strategy is to backup the data using three different online services. That way no matte what happens to one account, there are two more. A less expensive strategy (if you have a lot of data to store) is to emulate the same idea using your own hard drives and backup software. For example, backup daily to one hard drive, weekly to another, and monthly to the third. Use a good backup utility that is reliable such as Carbon Copy Cloner 4.1.3 or Get Backup Pro 2.6.1. You could also use Time Machine to maintain hourly backups to a fourth drive. For even greater security against drive failure make the daily backup to a mirrored RAID array.

Nevertheless, if you wish to continue with your extant method, then you can have all three user accounts using the same Apple ID. I'm not quite sure how DropBox keeps your accounts separate, but I assume you are using three different email addresses.

On my Mac. I have two "user accounts" set up for me. One I started a long time ago and is the Admin User. The other I had setup as a standard User Account as the experts had always suggested not using your daily work signed in as Admin for best security.

However I am stumped with all the new iCloud,Idrive, dropbox integration, how this all works without massive duplication of files on my drive. Using the same apple id would assist in making sure everything is both areas is in sync.

Apple Id cloud log-in will not currently let me sign in even when I am logged out of my Admin and Restart and use As a Standard Account.

Should this work and or How?

You might want to start your own post since this one is from last year. A new post would be much more visible. You can link to this one.
