What determines which photos appear in the Panoramas album

I am trying to determine what dimensions a photo has to be to appear automatically in the Panoramas album. I have created what appear to me to be panoramic pictures, but only some appear in the Panoramas album. All my iPhone produced panoramas appear there, but only some of my cropped photos making me deduce that it might be the original size of the picture that determines whether it is pano picture or not.

I suppose the thing to try is crop a picture in an external editor and see whether they appear in the album.

Any other ideas?

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3), iPhone 6+, iPad Air, Apple TV 2

It also seems to be a matter of the absolute size, not only of the aspect ratio of the original.

I just tested with a test image. With the original pixel size of 3616x749 it did not show as a panorama, but scaled up to 10000x2070 it did.

Thanks for the info, very useful. There appears to be something erratic about the Panorama album. The smallest picture I have in there is a scanned old school photo 4455x853, and the smallest ratio is 1:2.9 (7216x2494). I take the point about absolute size - but it still doesn't make sense. Hey ho! I can always make my own smart album to group them together. Photos.app is still only version 1.0, so lets hope more things get sorted as time goes.

The Discussions search is rubbish as well. Type "panorama" and nothing shows (hence my not finding the previous posts on this topic). Type "panoramas" and you find some things. Doing a google doesn't work either.

The search tool is indeed not very useful, currently. It used to be better. It looks like it would not make a full text search but index mainly the titles and keywords. Most titles are too unspecific, and nearly nobody ads keywords. Anti does not help, that the default search mode is "answered questions", because many questions do not get marked as answered.

When you google for "Photos" questions, search for "Photos.app" and not for "Photos". With this unfortunate name you will get many false positives.
