iMac discards CDs
my iMac wont take CD's. When i try to put a CD in, it makes the vv- vvvv then the CD comes back out. no warning on my screen or anything.

I am having the exact same issue. I can play a DVD, even a home video DVD, but audio cd's are not mounted.
It does the same for ALL CD's 😟
Use an Apple USB Superdrive instead. New Apple computers don't have CD drives, so you will need to use the new Superdrive to get it. Also your OS X Snow Lepoard might be too old for new CDS.

The Superdrives are not the most reliable drives; I've had to have mine replaced twice. If it does not accept any media, then it could be the mechanism malfunctioning. You can either get it replaced by an AASP or simply purchase an external DVD/CD burner/player - it does not have to be an Apple product as long as it is compatible with your Mac.
