Q: Using Gift Cards

I recently purchased gift cards for my grandchildren.  I live in the USA - they live in Australia.  When they went to use them they received a message that said the cards could only be redeemed in the USA.  Why is this?  Is there any way I can send they gift cards so they can purchase what they want for their iPads?

 

I noticed at the very bottom of the iTunes page (in small letters) the link to change countries.  When I clicked on the link it allowed me to choose another country.  What is this for??  Could this be a way to use a gift card from another country?

 

There should be a way to make this an easy process as many families have relatives who live around the world.

    All gift cards (and items gifted from the store) can only be redeemed in their country of issue - they will need to be in the US, with a US billing address on their accounts, to be able to redeem and use US gift cards. You could try to find a store that sells Australian gift cards.

     

    The flag at the bottom of the iTunes store pages allows you to browse other countries stores, but you can't buy from them

    1. Because of limits set by the copyright holders.

    2. Not through iTunes. Send the money in another way, such as with an international cheque.

    3. For browsing other countries' iTunes Stores. It can't be used for redeeming gift cards, or to buy or download anything other than podcast episodes.
