How can I play back video on my Macbook Pro that was recorded on a Sony PMW 350?

I need to playback video on my Macbook Pro that was recorded on a Sony PMW350 video cam corder. I don't need to edit it, but I need to transfer the video to the MAC so I can play it back through a data projector for training. I don't want to fill up my hard disk with a lot of video, so I was wondering if I could transfer the video from the camera to a USB Drive and then play it back from there. Any ideas?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)

It's not possible playback directly from a USB Drive.

You can import content from a camera using the pre installed Image Capture app in your Applications folder.
