It's probably too late but I hope to help others which may have accidentally dropped their iPhone 6 in water.

I had the same issue about 2 weeks ago.

I left my iPhone 6 Plus on the side of the bathroom sink and I while I was doing pushups on the floor the iPhone fell by itself into the sink which was half-filled with water.

When I got up I was struck by the sight of my jewel being under water and I grabbed it immediately, dried it with a towel and turned it off. I also did shake it a bit to get more liquid out of the insides.

I immediately did a Google search which led me to the Apple Communities, and where I read other member's experiences.

This is what I did: I got a plastic meal box, filled it with dry rice, covered the headphone and charger holes with small silica anti-humidity packs (used adhesive tape to hold them in-place) and WAITED 7 full days. I changed the rice half-way through the week.

Patience is key here. Please, don't turn on your device before 7 full days.

If you have Apple Care you can get your device replaced by paying 79.99$ I think. But why pay 80$ if you can get it working again for free?

Hope this helps the Apple Community.

Before closing the message, here's a final tip: please don't take the iPhone to the bathroom, kitchen, beach or near the swimming pool. Better be safe than sorrow!

I Believe you meant to say "AppleCare+" and not AppleCare. Only the "+" coverage includes the two accidental damage claim waivers. Ordinary AppleCare does not include any coverage at all for accidental damage, which requires a full out-of-warranty exchange fee.

If you had a bunch of silica desiccant packs you could have used them instead of the uncooked rice. All the rice does is act as a desiccant to keep the environment in that sealed container dry and hence draw moisture from the device in there with it. I'd guess those silica packs you used did far more to help in your case anyway, as rice is a poor desiccant at best, but just about everybody will have some on hand so it's the material that gets suggested most.

Thanks for the correction, yes it is Apple Care+ indeed. The one you pay for when you buy an iDevice.

Yes it is a good idea to throw a few silica packs in the sealed container with the rice.

Just hope that iPhone 7 will have better water protection as most people haven't had the same "luck" I had resurrecting their iPhones after water contact.

Peace.
