iMac 11,2

OS X Yosemite 10.10.3

3.06 GHz intel Core i3

Speed 5.86 GT/s

available storage 243.5 (499.25)

I put onto iDVD project a number of YouTube videos and at preview looked good but on burning, some of the videos had no sound. This has happened before but i put it down to the project being too big and/or I got tired trying to figure out what went wrong! I will appreciate your help.

Follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:

Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.

To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.

Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

Try the disk image method to see if you can get the sound from the disk image.  If not then the problem is further upstream.

Have you done any editing of the video files since creating the project.  If so there's a bug in iDVD that requires you to start over with a totally new project in order to get a good encoding.

Old Toad, may you be well, and thank you for responding to my question. I did as you suggested and on playing on DVD player, still no sound with most of the youtube videos in my project! What would you suggest now? Again, thank you for your help.

What  format are the videos?  Play them with QT Player and type Command + i to bring up the info pane for the file:

    QuickTime Player001.jpg

You might try exporting it out of QT Player at 480p and use that format in the project.

The video formats are not my area of expertise so I'm winging it here.  Definitely start over with a new project and go the disk image route.

I have downloaded a number of videos from YouTube using iSkysoft and then used iDVD to burn these onto a DVD. This has not proved problematic until recently; it might have been when I changed to Yosemite!

I did as you suggested and played the video extracts with QT and again a couple have sound but most don't. Bringing up the 'inspector' just said 'no documents'. I also started the project form scratch and saved as image but same result.

Thank you for your patience, and generosity.

Try downloading with a different app and see if the sound will play.

I want to thank you, Old Toad, for your generosity and persistence. For me, my head is beginning to ache with this, life is just too short. So, I will thank you again, and I think i will take this Mac along to a professional (as opposed to a real professional on-line, and free).

    Many thanks, Danny.

    Be well, tread softly.
