Is Ubertech support a scam? I have Macbook Pro OSX Yosemite 10.10.3. I got led into callling Uber techsupport after I apparently picked up an infection from an on-line platform. I paid $299 and spent 2 hours with their technicians

IS UBERtech Support legit? Macbook Pro MacBook Pro (13-inch, Early 2011) 8.1OSZ Yosemite 10.10.3. 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3. 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7. I picked up a bad link from an online movie platform late last night and suddenly was directed by what looked like an Apple msg to call a number which turned out to be Ubertech Support --in Delhi. I agreed to pay $299 for the removal of an "infection." . I believe my computer was "cleaned" as they promised and when I refused to pay even more for their software, one of their technicians installed something for free called ADBlock and said I would now be protected for three years. He said ADBlock could also be trasnferred to my Iphone & Ipad. The bad link was LISTCHACK. They said my firewall had expired 19 or 20 days ago???? And that Apple would have tried to call me but if they got a recording would not have left a msg. They say there is a 45 day moneyback guaranty.

Sorry, but you have been scammed. Since you allowed the criminals access to your computer, consider it compromised and take steps to restore it using a backup that predates the intrusion. If you used a bank card to pay the criminals, consider it compromised and contact your bank for steps to deal with the fraud.

Phony "tech support" / "ransomware" popups and web pages

That they used an icon belonging to Apple means nothing. They're crooks. They don't care about copyright infringement. There are dozens or more of these so-called help centers who's only goal is to help you empty your wallet for nothing of value in return.

Apple does know about them, but they are virtually all run outside the U.S. where ours laws can do nothing about them, and the countries they are in do little about it.
