want best way to download photos to retain full file integrity from iPhone 5 iOS 6.0.2 to mac OS 10.7...

--need to delete to upgrade IOS

--want to restore some but certainly not all photos to phone after upgrade

--what are advantages of doing so without using iPhoto?

iPhone 5, iOS 6.0.2, To MacBook Pro OS 10.7

One method is to connect the phone with the USB cable and launch Image Capture. With it you can download all of the image files from your camera roll (and videos) to a folder on the Desktop. Then you can delete the files from the phone.


To upload to the phone after the new iOS upgrade the photos you want can be put into a folder on your hard drive, or into an album in iPhoto after importing into iPhoto and uploaded via iTunes.
