Q: How do I just turn off the ringtone or set it to "Vibrate Only"? - iPhone6

Coming from Android I was able to set my Message Tone to None and my Ringtone to None so I would continue to get all the sounds from tapping apps, folders, sending texts, locking my phone, unlocking my phone, tapping the keys of my keyboard, etc., but I can't figure out how to do that on this phone. I've asked a couple of people I know that use an iPhone and they say I have to make or get a "silent" ringtone which, in my opinion, is just stupid. If this is the ONLY option for silencing my ringtone while still having every other sound on my phone working then, well, that's just silly. I have my phone on me at all times except when sleeping, my job requires it. I know when I'm getting a call and a text with the vibration and don't really want my phone blaring some ridiculous ringtone to let everyone else in the building know that I'm getting a call or text too.

Don't get me wrong, I am not displeased with the phone by any means. It's solid and performs quite well. I just think that it is pretty absurd that Apple doesn't give us consumers the simple ability to just set the ringtone to None, Silent or Vibrate Only like the rest of the alerts in the Sounds menu without silencing the phone.

If I am missing something then I apologize for the rant and would love for someone to explain to me how I can turn it off. If not then I stand by everything I said! =P

Thanks in advance for any answers or advice!

Regards,

J

You can use the toggle on the side of your phone to turn off the sounds of incoming calls and messages. Music, sounds in games etc. will still be available.

For more information on iOS sound options, take a look at this article:

    Hope this helps you!

I have been using the switch to keep my phone from ringing, but it also silences other parts of the phone I don't want to silence.

I guess what I'm trying to say is I only want my ringtones and notifications to be silenced or vibrate only not the sound of messages being sent, the phone locking and unlocking and the clicking of the keyboard. Is there any way of making the ringtone Vibrate Only or am I going to need to make a silent ringtone?

    Thanks for you help.

Go to settings-sounds, set ringtone to vibrate only. You can keep other sounds on.

I don't see that in the settings. I see a None option under Text Tone, New Voicemail, New Mail, etc., but no option for None under Ringtone and the volume slider only turns the ringtone down, not completely off. I might just be missing it.

I downloaded a silent ringtone and put that on my phone. It'll do the trick until I can figure this out.

    Thanks for your help guys!
