One of my mail accounts has recently begun receiving vulgar spam. They are never opened, I just right click/delete. But in the deleted box there is no blue circle indicating Unread. Can a spammer ever tell if an email has been opened?

But in the deleted folder there is no blue circle indicating Unread next to these emails. Can a spammer ever tell if an email has been opened? Does deleting cause it to show as opened?
