My Macbook Pro doesn't recognize blank CDs ???

When I put a blank CD in, i can hear it going in, spinning around a few times, and then it promptly stops and starts making a weird noise. Then, after a few minutes, (during which my computer doesn't even say that there is a CD in,) it spits the CD out. How do I get it to recognize a blank CD? It was fine last week!

Last week was last week.

Have you tried restarting the computer?

Will the drive recognize media of any kind? How about a regular pre-recorded music CD?

How old is this computer? If getting on more than 4 years you could be facing a failed drive. Noise is not good. Probably something out of balance. You could waste your money on a drive cleaning disc but the chances of it helping are not good. A replacement internal drive will be expensive. If it is a failed drive you are best off looking for a third party (cheaper) external drive.

A whirring sound of CD spinning is normal. If it is making a loud noise or rattling or unbalanced that is not normal. None of that would be software (either iTunes or the computer's operating system) related.

September? Still under warranty then. If the above does not work consider making an appointment at a Genius Bar and get them to look at it.
