When I enter a new event in my calendar it wont register

When i try and enter a new event in the calendar, I go ahead and put in the event and time and everything and press enter, it takes a minute to update and then it just says New Event... I have to do this about 3 times until it registers. It is becoming very problematic.

It would be very helpful if we knew what version of OS X is installed on your computer and if you could post a screen shot that would be helpful too.

To find the version of OS X, click the Apple symbol in the upper left of the display and click About this Mac.
