My IPod headphone jack smells like gasoline or something.

My IPod fell off of my bed, and when I picked it up, it started to smell like gasoline. Does this mean it's going to explode if I plug it into the wall to charge it, or if I plug my headphones in? My IPod's battery is soon going to be dead, so I would REALLY like to be able to charge it without the whole "blowing up" thing happening. 😟
