iMessage how to make a list

How to make a list on Mac with iMessage.

On iPhone I often send lists of daily materials needed for projects to subcontractors using iMessage because it seems this is the most efficient way (fast as a phone call and recipient does not have to record, plus if they are busy data will be on hand at next glance). Every time I press return the text advances to a new line which makes reading the list easy. If I try the same from the Mac, every time I press return the message is sent. If I continue the list, it will be in the form of a separate message. Separate messages are not as simply to manage for the recipient (and fear the list may not be complete when managed). Neither is a long string with comma's or other markers. Every time I encounter this issue, I switch over to iPhone but would prefer to know how to accomplish same on Mac. I assume the Mac has the capability to perform same operation as iPhone.

In TextEdit on OS X, type in your standard or custom list. Select, copy, and then paste this into Messages. Though the white-space between the bullet/number and the text is lost on paste, you can add it back for visual formatting. The paste operation does not send the message.

IOS and OS X, and their respective applications are different implementations. You can expect things to work similarly, but in practice they cannot.
