Q: Boot Camp Message = CDBOOT : Couldn't find BOOTMGR

Hi,

I partionned my 32 bit Yosemite Mac OS X, and all work until I try to install my Windows7 32 Bits Professional iso, with my self burned DVD. I use an external LG DVD writer / reader, because my built in optical reader's broken, with my portable Mac.

So I was told that the problem should be with HOW I actually burned the DVD, that it was the only problem at this point...

So know, basically whenever I try to open my Mac, if I do not hold *alt* key while the sound's on, I get a black screen saying something like no driver or something, and if I try to connect with y external LG optical DVD reader with the seemingly bad burnt DVD, it says the message I wrote in the title of this post...

So could someone give me an exact procedure to finally be able to install windows 7 on my computer and play Path of Exile like a boss please?

Thanks!

Ok I read about your link, but it doesn't fully inform me : you are saying I should not use alt key at the start of computer to choose between Mac ou Windows in bootcamp? WHat should I do, to switch between one and the other when starting the computer please? I have successfully placed Mac as default at start, but I still do not understand how not to use alt when the computer make the start sound when you press alt and choose?

    Thanks

You can switch between OSX and Windows.

OSX -> Windows can be switched using System Preferences -> Startup Disk -> Select Bootcamp -> Restart.

Windows -> OSX can be switched using Control Panel -> Boot Camp -> select OSX Disk -> Restart. The System Tray should also have a Bootcamp icon with Restart in OSX option.

You do not really need to power-cycle the Mac manually.

Right. I can now switch between one and the other when I'm on one of the two (windows --» mac, mac --» windows.)

But, what do I do if when I *start* the computer, and it is, say, by default on Mac, and I want to start using Windows???

Use the Alt/Option key and select OSX or Windows. Ignore Recovery HD.

Dear Loner. I have seen your experties on the forum. So I guess you are my last hope in installing either Windows 7 or Windows 8. My system is iMac, mid 2011 27". when I first installed Windows 7 on it with Bootcamp it was installed in without any trouble. Later it was upgraded to Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 and finally to Windows 10. Since many of my purchased softwares were not running in Windows 10 I attempted to go back to windows 8.1. And this was the start of nightmare. I now installed the OS X Lion (which was originally installed) on my computer and started same procedure ie downloaded Bootcamp, partitioned HDD. Now my built in super drive rejects the Windows 7 and Windows 8 setup disks. I again attempted to install Windows 7through external DVDs drive. Nothing happened except showing a blank screen. I tried to install Windows 8. This time it shows a message CDBOOT:Couldn't find BOOTMGR. I did not know what to do now. I am a very old person and merely a computer user (don't know much about computers) so you have to help me with patience and details. Please help me.

Were you within the 30-day W10 upgrade window to rollback to W8.1? W10 can be rolled back to a previous Windows version within the first 30 days of upgrade.

    1. You do not need to downgrade OS X. What is the current version of OS X on your Mac?

    2. Does your SuperDrive read/play audio CDs?

    3. Are these W7/8 disks commercial versions, or are they burnt copies?

    4. It is possible that the Superdrive has collected dust and refuses to read disks, but check number 2 first.

Sorry for responding late. Here are reply to your querries. Unfortunately I did not roll back to Windows 8.1 within 30 days time. This is the reason for trying toinstall the Windows 8.1 again. Other information is as under:

    1. I reverted to OS X Lion which was the first OS X on my iMac when windows 7 was installed very smoothly without any trouble. I thought that again Windows will be installed with the same ease with OS X Lion. Now encouraged by your suggestion I have again installed OS X El Capitan.

    2. Yes the built in super drive reads and play audio CDs/DVDs normally. It even starts Windows versions of Partitions Wizard Pro and Acornis True Image normally. My Windows 8.1 partition is backed up with Acornis True Image but it could not be restored on partition created by Bootcamp.

    3. Windows 7 and Windows 8 disks I am using are original and legal DVDs.

    4. As I said I am not a computer nerd. I don't know how to check for dust in Superdrive. However the audio/video CDs/DVDs are running properly. So I assume that it is working fine.

Please help me as I have many original and legal softwares which are lying useless for the present.

Since your Optical drive is fully functional, my recommendation is to use the following links.

How to install Windows using Boot Camp - Apple Support

The following links should also help

Use Windows 8.1 on your Mac with Boot Camp - Apple Support

    https://help.apple.com/bootcamp/assistant/6.0/

Start with Application -> Utilities -> Bootcamp Assistant and follow the first link. If you run into any issues at any step, please post back.
