final cut pro

I just loaded version 7 of FCP and am learning how to ingest videos which has worked well. However when I tried to import .jpg slides it will not recognize any of them. It says JPEG is a legitimate format in the helps, but it will not recognize the files or allow me to import them and they are necessary for the project. Can anyone give me a clue as to what might be wrong or something I am missing?

I also tried to transfer a couple large clips after logging them and each one produced an error message after processing for a long time.
