Q: Photos(Mac) not recognizing Aperture projects/Albums

I am about at my whits end with the whole photo problem.. When I switched over to Yosemite my Aperture wouldn't work anymore as I was on 3.x.x something and didn't have the chance to upgrade until it was too late.

So, When Photos came out I was pleased to hear I could import my Aperture library but when I did that it basically just imported 9000 pictures with no album or project information.

The weird part is when I try and sync my photos to my iPhone it will sync all the photos and it DOES display my albums and projects that I had created in Aperture.

Is there any way to get this info back in Photos other than going through 9000 photos one by one and adding them to new albums/projects?

I was hoping once I had them on my iPhone I could erase the ones I didn't want and sync it back to my Mac but when the photos are loaded on to my iPhone I am not able to erase any of them, I can only view them.

If any one could help I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Photos does not have projects like Aperture did.  When you migrated your Aperture library by opening it in Photos, it should have created a folder in the Album view. This folder, called "iPhoto Events" will contain an album for each of your Aperture projects.  Look for such a folder.

You probably synced the photos with iTunes.   Sync photos to your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch in iTunes - Apple Support

When you sync with iTunes you cannot delete the synced photos on your device.  They can only be deleted by syncing again.  And you cannot transfer them back to your Mac by syncing. Syncing with iTunes is one-way.

You're welcome.     I renamed this folder to "Aperture projects".

You may notice a few other missing items after the migration.  Have a look at this support document:

That was going to be my next question. Just realized some folders show as empty but there are actually 50+ pictures in some of them!?

I Read the support document. The "revert to original" seems to be greyed out when I select anything.

I Have quite a few missing pictures Right now.

as I was on 3.x.x something

Have you checked at the App Store if Aperture is showing on the "Purchases" tab of the App Store?  You cannot buy Aperture 3 any longer and not update it, but you can reinstall, if you own a version, that has been updated or bought from the App Store.

Try this User Tip:   Updating to Aperture 3.6 After the Release of Photos

It would help, if you could get the current version of Aperture installed, so you can compare the library in Aperture with what you are seeing in Photos.

Do you have referenced photos in your library?  Perhaps some originals are missing.

Aperrure is not showing in my purchases. I even did the "unhide" thing as mentioned.

I Installed it from a disc I bought way back.

I Believe the disc is aperture 2. Will I even be able to install that to upgrade now that I'm on Yosemite?

The only version you can install on Yosemite is Aperture 3.6. And it requires that your Aperture 3 purchase is showing at the Mac AppStore as associated with your Apple ID.

Originally you said you were on Aperture 3.x.x..  If your current version is an Aperture 3 version, you might try to talk the Mac App Store support into sending you a redeem Code to download the update from the App Store.

But if your version is Aperture that will not work because the upgrade from Aperture 2 to Aperture 3 requires a purchase, and Aperture is no longer sold.
