Can't find Airdop to share between ipad and MacbookPro

I've looked at all the directions for sharing files between and iPad (IOS 8.3) and my MacBook Pro (Yosemite 10.10.3) and I can't get past the first step on either device.

Airdrop does not show up in my finder window (see attached screen shot). I even searched for it - nothing.

On the iPad, I cannot swipe up for the Control Center, except from the lock screen and there are no Airdrop options there (2nd screen shot).

What's missing?

MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2009), OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)

In order to transfer files between a Mac and and an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch

your iOS device needs to include a lightning connector

your iOS device needs iOS 7 or later installed

your Mac needs to be a 2012 or later model with OS X Yosemite installed

Your Mac and iOS device both need bluetooth and Wi-Fi turned on. You do not have to be connected to a specific Wi-Fi network.

So. Your Mac is too old to support AirDrop towards Apple mobile devices.

You didn't mention anything about your iPad, apart from iOS version.

Mac:

Have you checked if AirDrop is selected in your finder sidebar menu?

Finder > Preferences > sidebar > then you should check if Airdrop is checked.

iPad:

Do you have restrictions enabled on your iPad?

Settings > General > Restrictions

If you have that enabled and the AirDrop is also enabled then it won't show up in Control Center...
