Q: Apple ID & Family Share setup?

So I have an interesting situation which is becoming very frustrating. I got my first iPhone back with the 2nd generation. and used one up until the iPhone 4, at which point I have switched over to Android for a few years. My wife got her first iPhone as a 3GS. We at that point in time used the same Apple ID & email. Now that I'm coming back to the iOS platform (first with a iPad Mini2 & with a iPhone 6s or whatever they name it when it releases). So I'm attempting to get everything setup.

Right now due to having one Apple ID things meant for my wife like phone calls and iMessages also go to my iPad. While this is kind of annoying now I can imagine it being horrible when it also does it with my phone. So I thought the solution to this was to setup a 2nd Apple ID and do the family share plan (its just the 2 of us no kids). Well at first I couldnt create a 2nd Apple ID because my 2nd email address was also associated with my current [main] email address for the wife. So I found the option within the Apple ID management and removed the 2nd email address. I then created the 2nd Apple ID and everything looks fine .... BUT now whenever I go to invite the new Apple ID into the family share thing I get the following error message "Cannot send invitation: You cannot send at invitation to your own account." If I had hair I would be pulling it out what can I do to solve this problem. The only other thing I can think of is that each of the email addresses has the other set as the "rescue" email address and I wonder if that is an issue.

Any other advice about setting this type of setup for me and my wife both with iPads and both with iPhone. How are others handling this type of situation?

    Welcome back

True the same iCloud account will sync the call history and more across your devices.

I would suggest using a brand new address and create a new account for one of you.  That will keep that info separate.

Don't add it to an existing Apple ID.

With the new Apple ID you can setup the Family sharing and share the purchases.

Sharing purchased content with Family Sharing - Apple Support

Which Apple account did you set up as the Organizer account for Family Sharing?

The OP indicated that a second Apple ID has already been set up. The issue is with trying to invite someone into the Family Sharing account that they also have already set up....

Yes the "main" / "Organizer" account is the one we have had forever. I then today removed from the original Apple ID my secondary email address, then created a new Apple ID with that email address. But it wont let me invite that new Apple ID to the Family Share.

OK, so you may want to try some of these things:

    1.     Try signing out of iCloud on both devices and then back in again, and then give it a try

    2.      Click on Stop Family Sharing in iCloud>Family Sharing, and then turn it on again and try again

    3.     Double-click the Home key and slide up on the Settings icon to close Settings and try again

    3.     Reset the device that you are getting the error on (nothing will be lost): Hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold them down until the Apple appears (up to 30 seconds). Once the Slide to Unlock screen displays, try again

If those don't work, I would suggest trying tomorrow (assuming you just set up the new ID today). Sometimes it seems like there is a delay for certain changes made to an Apple ID.

    Best of luck,
