Can I ask some other questions here or do I have to enter them individually…some do have to do with an alias?
I have a G5 that I used primarily for storage for iTunes and photos….and I had a second hddrive I used just for those files…
I don't know much about computers but enough to get me into trouble. I wanted to back up my files and one day noticed that my #2 hddrive was missing from the desktop and anywhere else I knew to look for it. I do have an 'alias' on the desktop for the 2 Hard Disk drive but it is very limited with my stuff….
I also lost ALL of my photos that used to be in my iPhoto library….I could have deleted them but, I assure you, it was not voluntarily--there was over 15,000 photos….
I try to open the iDisk and it tells me that's not possible because there is an error 5016
Can you tell me what I did or what could have happened….if I remember correctly, this all happened shortly after I had upgraded my system OS X 10.5.8 over a year ago….I have not had much time to deal with this and when I do I get more frustrated because I understand nothing and get nowhere….like now...
I do appreciate your help in knowing what an alias is--that it is only a shortcut...
thx. Judy
what is an alias?
Those provide a way of viewing the folder's contents.

Usually means it's not a file, but an alias to a file.
A pointer to a file or folder.

Thank you for the answer to the arrow question but what is an alias?--in simple untechnical terms, if that is possible….
A shortcut to a file or folder.
thank you…..what is different between this type and the regular icon on my desktop?
One is a file, the other is not a file, it is a shortcut.
Ok, thanks…
