HP tech support suggested I contact Apple because 'cups' (common unix printing) is corrupted. Here's the message when trying to print:
"/Library/Printers/hp/cups/Inkjet3.driver/Contents/MacOS/Inkjet3 failed " (within the quotes) . I have a HP Officejet Pro 8000 Wireless printer and I am looking for guidance on how to best correct this. I have a Mac OS X Lion Version 10.7.5 Thank you.

Go to System Preferences > Printers and remove your printer then install it again.
Thanks, deggie, but I did as you suggested and it did not work. Instead of a green light by the selected printer, I get an orange light which means it won't print.
How do I fix this 'cups' thing that the HP tech person tells me is corrupted and only resolve by Apply support?
A possible workaround for printer and scanner until the HP printer driver 3.1 is replaced.
This is for Ethernet, printer might work with USB but I do not have a USB cable to test.
No idea what features are missing except scanner dpi resolution.
Find printer IP address by using Setup Menu -> Network
This worked for printing,
Use printer & scanner preference to add printer via IP address
Select for protocol HP Jetdirect - Socket
Use (bottom line) Generic PCL Laser Printer
This worked for scanning.
Use the printer IP address in a browser.
Thank you for the effort, Rabelscotia, but I do have the updated hp printer driver. I also don't have a Laser Printer.
In the Preferences the dropdown list also includes Generic PostScrip Printer. Hope this might help.
I just ran another test. The dropdown with Use lets you Choose a Driver. I picked the one for my the HP and it printer, but no scanner option.
My apologies for not replying sooner. After spending much time with Apple via phone and HP, I called Microsoft as a last resort and learned that I needed to upgrade my MS Office for Mac from 2008 to 2011. It was a huge relief to know that it worked and I am able to print now. Thank you so much for the help you put in to help me with this.
