Q: imessage from icloud.com

my son has an ipod and has a icloud.com email linked by familysharing to my account.

 

is he able to imessage from that account?

OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3), outlook not installed

    Hello njenkins, 

     

    It sounds like you have some questions about Family sharing and accounts that are associated with it. If the account you are talking about is a child account that you have setup for them to use then it is its own Apple ID with all the features that entails because you provided parental consent:

     

    Family Sharing and Apple IDs for kids

    ...

    Apple IDs allow them to participate in Family Sharing and use other Apple services such as iCloud, iMessage, FaceTime, and Game Center.

    To participate in Family Sharing, all family members must have their own Apple ID. Children under 13* can't create an Apple ID on their own. However, as a parent or legal guardian, the family organizer can provide verified parental consent for a child to have their own Apple ID, then create it on the child’s behalf.

    Yes, iMessage will work as long as he signs into his iCloud account
