Apple watch will not let me enter password
My Apple watch will not let me enter my password if I take it off and put it back on. It shuts off as I try to enter the numbers or it pick its own set of numbers. What could I be doing wrong?

Do not think speed of typing is the problem and yes the screen went black. It has happened several days late in the day. The last time the battery had 34% charge remaining. It would not even let me type the first number at times. Then it would let me type in a couple of numbers and then go black. Normally it allows me to correct for a bad number but not at this time. Sometimes it would add wrong numbers. I was typing a 9 and it put in 4. My fingers are not that big. I solved the problem by putting it back on the charger for less than 30 seconds. Took it off the charger and back on arm and it worked fine. Have had watch since 4/28/15. Problem started about 1 week ago.
Try a Force Restart of your watch.
To force a restart of your Watch press and hold both the Digital Crown and the Side button continuously until the Apple logo appears. Then release the button and let the device restart.

"Shuts off"? I think you mean the watch's screen goes dark, which will happen to save the battery. You are probably typing your passcode too slowly. If you cannot type the code faster, then move your wrist in such a way that the display would stay on if the watch were not locked.
This issue has happened a lot lately. What is wrong? The only fix for me has been to put the watch on the charger and it seems to reset. I hate this because it seems to happen when I'm not around my charger so I have to wait till I get home. It seems to happen the most when I am using the GPS and I can't see the turns because my watch turns off quickly!
They need to fix this glitch! It's not the operator.
I just did a forced reset and it fixed the problem for now. I had just taken if off the charger and could not get the screen to stay on long enough to do anything including enter the password. Note that you can unlock it by unlocking your phone if you have it set up that way. Forced reset seems to be the best solution but it's going back if it happens again. I've had it a couple of weeks.

What happened when you tried a Forced Restart of the Watch? This is like the reset of an iOS device or a reboot of a computer. It won't cause harm but it might solve software glitches.
Has anyone had the locked out of password problem and fixed it by holding down the two buttons?

The buttons on the side of an Watch are correctly referred to as the Digital Crown and the side button.
The Digital Crown is the round button that can be clicked or rotated to use for scrolling.
The Side Button is the long rounded rectangular button.
