Reinstall OSX 10.6.3 did not format drive

I have purchased a copy of OS X 10.6.3, so that I can become the Administrator of the second hand Mac mini I purchased from ebay. I have now installed the new system software after backing up my files. However, the result was that my Mac is the same as before, not formatted, and I have an older operating system (10.6.3 as opposed to 10.6.8). How do I format the drive. I need to become the Administrator, that is why I bought the Snow Leopard software. Thankyou.

You need to use the Disk Utility on the DVD to erase the drive, and then install the OS.

When you boot from the install DVD you should be ale to go to Disk Utility in the installer and format the HD.

What exactly happens when you do that? If you get an error message just what did you click on and what was the exact wording of the error message?

Cause the Retail Upgrade Snow Leopard10.6.3 Disc is only good for the 2010 (with a CD/DVD drive slot) and earlier models.

The 2011 and later models (without a CD/DVD drive slot) came with Lion or a later OS X and can not run 10.6 Snow Leopard.
